It's Sunday up at the resort and it's a beautiful day up here. Come up today and keep your eyes out for our professional photographers. We are fully staffed today and you'll find portrait photographers at the scenic overlooks located at the top of the major lifts and action photographers on the slopes and in the terrain park.

Blue skies and warm weather and a great snowpack brought a bunch of people out of the woodwork, everybody was havin' fun today! We snapped lots of amazing shots on the ski hill.

Here's the bottom of Grandview Express. It was only about a 15 minute wait in the lift line.

Yesterday a lady skied up to me at Sierra at Tahoe, and asked if photos from Kirkwood are still available from a few years ago. YES, of course they are I told her! The I explained, "we utilize a photo sharing service which features essentially unlimited photo storage. So why would we delete any photos? We don't, unless specifically requested by the person in the image (rare), we never erase or delete Flowski Pix images". Our photo archive has links to all the old Flowski Pix photo galleries. We have pictures dating back to 2005, our first season at Kirkwood Resort.

This is great news because whether you just never got around to purchasing pictures or you would like to order additional prints or photo gifts your proofs are still there safe and sound as good as the day they were uploaded. Including the staff galleries! This is especially helpful if your pictures are ever damaged, no worries, just order a new set!

On selected days, we are shooting pictures at Sierras new snow play area and Today's Photo of The Day is from the Snow Play Park at Sierra at Tahoe. They have developed a fun sledding hill and rope-tow accessible tubing area at Sierra. Complete with outdoor firepits for s'mores roasting. They call it Blizzard Mountain where snow play even the littlest ones can build a snowman, construct a snow fort, make angels in the snow, and have fun playing in the snow.

We just got word from Kirkwood that the resort would like us to shoot this winter. Therefore we are currently seeking photographers to staff Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Kirkwood is known as the snowier resort in the area so well need some hardy individuals to join our team of photographers. This is a photo of Heart Chute, accessible from The Wall chairlift at Kirkwood Mountain Resort in the Sierra Mountains of California, about 32 miles from Lake Tahoe. You can see 2 skiers ready to drop into the chute which narrows down to a tight cliff drop with an open run out.
We shoot more than just portrait and action photos at the resort. We are always on the lookout for anything interesting to snap a photo of. It was an exceptional snow year in the Sierra Mountains and that makes for great photos. Check out our Best of Kirkwood 2006 Gallery for a collection of this winters most interesting photos. We have photos of a variety of mountain activities and landscape photography from scenic overlooks all over the resort. There are also poeple photos of the staff and visitors too.

A Great Winter at Kirkwood

The park staff sums it up for all of us at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, as they jump for joy on the last day of the 2006 winter season. It was a great winter, with the most snow in the USA. We received 850 inches of snow this winter. We closed April 30th with a 350" base on top of the mountain.
Even with all of the snow we had a great season taking photos on the mountain and of course we did lots of powder skiing.

It's Snowing in Lake Tahoe- Ski Kirkwood This Winter

The changing of the seasons is quickly ushering in ski season and before you know it we'll be up on the mountain taking photos of skiers on vacation. Winter is my favorite time of the year, I love the snowstoms and being outside during them. Were going to get some more snow tonite and I'm ready, let ski season begin. I think were going to ski at Kirkwood Resort in California this winter. Kirkwood is our favorite Lake Tahoe ski resort. They get more snow than the other Tahoe resorts, receiving over 800 inches of snow last year. and they have some of the best terrain to go with all that snow. Check out the Kirkwood Website for more information and to see a trail map of the runs. One of my favorite things in life, is to get snowed in at Kirkwood. During Huge snowstorms you get up there before they close the road due to impassable conditions. If you're one of the lucky ones you get up there before they close it. This doesn't happen often but when it does it makes for an epic day.
We sent Kirkwood Mountain Resort a proposal for Ski Photography at their resort this winter. They are still interested too. I talked with Mike at the resort and he said Chris would be handling the proposal so thats pretty exiting. Call me a positive thinker, but I have a feeling we're going to be at Kirkwood this winter taking photos of the guests. I'll keep you up to date.

Reflections In Yosemite Valley

I really love my digital camera. I can take photos that would be nearly impossible with my 35mm. While we were in Yosemite recently I wanted to get a picture of the mountains reflecting in the river. I tried some on the tripod at eye level and they were very beautiful, however the closer I got the camera to the water the better I liked the effect of the reflection. Well before you know it I had the head on the tripod turned upside down so the head is down in between the legs with the tripod in the water and the camera hovering like 1/4 inch over the placid water. Back in the day you would get very wet trying to compose this shot. Today I flip out the swiveling viewscreen and set up the shot without getting wet hair! I've never had a shot like this before, I used a polarizing filter to control the amount of reflection and ensure a nice blue sky. Autumn in Yosemite National Park

What a magnificent place Yosemite is. I'm moving there, not really but it crossed my mind a couple times. It's so beautiful, I just want to be there the moment a rainbow streaches from peak to peak over Half Dome, you'd almost have to live there or be very lucky to get it, kind of like catching an epic powder day up on the ski mountain. We really had a great time running around the park taking pictures of the world famous landmarks like Half Dome. I lived in Colorado for many years and I've seen alot of mountains, but Half Dome isn't typical It's got it's own personality going on. Going to Yosemite National Park

Hello, Everything is coming together for our autumn Yosemite National Park trip. We are going mid-week so there are less folks there, We are headed out on our freelance adventure this afternoon. It's getting really cold up here at night now so were packing the warm sleeping bags. Were planning on doing some hiking, But were not going to backpack on this trip. So stay tuned for more great photos. If I can find a decent WIFI connection, I will upload some shots on the road, otherwise I'll get em in as soon as we get back. The fall colors are getting better everyday now. Were trying to put together a photo excursion to Yosemite National Park. It really isn't that far from Lake Tahoe, like 80 miles or so but the drive there is so beautiful this time of the year. We will definitely go over scenic Tioga pass it will be spectacular with the autumn foliage. Stay tuned for photos of the trip. We've driven by it a few times on the way to other places, but I haven't been up into the park for years and I'm really looking forward to spending some time photographing the scenic landscapes. Sunset Lakes Autumn Adventure

My friend Eben called and said he was in the mood to take some fall photos. We cruzed over with the Northern California Atlas & Gazetteer and decided upon Blue Lakes Rd. Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh what a beautiful place. The backroad winds it's way thru the incredibly scenic Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest to Sunset Lakes. I hiked up a nearby peak to shoot the jagged rock they call Raymond Peak, 10,014' in elevation. It's one of the most picturesque places anywhere. There trees growing out of rocks. I went right up close and looked and could see no soil, I don't know how they survive. They look like big bonsai trees. See them at our online gallery powered by smugmug lookatyour photos.com.
I am looking forward to winter and skiing powder. I talked to jake in Breckenridge and they are making snow at A Basin and Loveland in Colorado. I'd like to ski at Kirkwood this winter. They have the best terrain and recieve the most snow of any of the tahoe resorts. Last winter Kirkwood recieved around 800 inches of snow! Check out www.kirkwood.com. Crisp Autumn Pictures

Jack and I went up the gondola at Heavenly Tahoe yesterday and we had a great day. The weather was perfect and we got some great photography. I kind of shot it from the perspective of a custie (visitor/customer as opposed to a local) would look it, so that the viewer gets that feeling that they went there. Next time I shoot like that I'm going to dress like a tourist, just to get in character. I'll go to the thrift store and get some, anyway save yourself the $24.00 and just look at the photos. They turned out so nice. I'm also uploading some beautiful autumn shots from the sierra mountains we got on a recent photo adventure. Heavenly Gondola Ride

Get the camera equipment packed up, our friend Eric gave us some passes to ride up the Heavenly Gondola, and sunday is the last day it's open for the season so were going up today for a photo shoot. The view of lake tahoe is spectacular from the mid station and the weather is perfect today. A perfect day for fall photos! Would you like a freelance photographer job ?
